Those wishing to bring a car into Canada must ensure that the vehicle complies, at the time of importation, with the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards that were in effect on the date that the vehicle was manufactured.
Vehicles that were manufactured for sale in countries other than Canada and the United States and do not comply with the requirements of the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Act, cannot be imported into Canada, nor can they be altered to comply with the regulations. Exceptions are only made to vehicles 15 years or older, as determined by the month and year in which the vehicle was manufactured. Any vehicle that has been altered from its original state, with the exception of routine maintenance, may not be imported into Canada. For further information, contact:
